ECBC-Cell in Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Odisha
Sustainable Buildings & Habitat has established the ECBC (Energy Conservation Building Code)-Cell in CMC office in January’2017 in collaboration Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) Pvt. Ltd. Under the funding support of UNDP (United Nations Development Program) to provide technical assistance to implement ECBC in Cuttack. Three technical staffs have been deputed from Sustainable Buildings & Habitat as full time project officers in ECBC-Cell to assist CMC & CDA in the ECBC implementation procedure in Odisha. The team comprises of one architect and twol engineers as described below.

The primary objective of this ECBC-Cell is to –
- provide technical assistance for ECBC implementation & enforcement in the city,
- Provide technical assistance to five commercial buildings (new & existing) to make them energy efficient and
- Organize one ECBC awareness & two ECBC training programs in six months.
UNDP is assisting Govt. of India in leveraging in Global Environment Facility (GEF) funds and implementing “Energy Efficiency Improvement in Commercial Buildings” (EECB) along with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency as implementing agency of the project. UNDP-GEF-BEE intervention aims to address identified barriers namely – informational, capacity, institutional & financial. The project aims to assist the government in implementing & operationalizing the ECBC, through a comprehensive & integrated approach.
